Monsoon in Maui...

well, all of Hawaii actually! And, truth be told, it wasn't actually a monsoon...but it was still crazy! I figure most of you on the mainland didn't know about it because the news over there has murders, politics, and weather in the North West to talk about. We are the forgotten little rocks in the middle of the Pacific.

Well, this is how it went down. There was some rain and winds Monday and Tuesday, I think the weekend before too, but obviously nothing that memorable. Tuesday night it went CRAZY! Wind gusts here reached up to 70 MPH here on Maui, there was crazy rain (I think they said 8 inches in one night, or day...I don't know it was a lot whatever it was!) We had flash flood warnings, high wind warnings; power was out on the south side for 2 days. Elliot had to sit at work for 2 days with no power...lame! My schools apparently have super duper power lines and stayed open throughout the craziness (I was super bummed about that)

Looking back it was pretty nuts, but during it I was pretty freaked out! I have lived through some rain, and snow, but nothing like this. I have never seen such hard rain in my life or such high winds. That in combination with the noise the wind made, the rolling thunder, some lightning flashes, flickering power, and stories of floods, downed trees and power lines, and a house that got pushed off it's foundation from the mud slide, it was a little freaky. Not to mention I am no longer connected to thousands of miles of land, but sitting in the middle of the ocean. I guess I will get used to it.

But, we're fine! No damage for us. Everything is great now...some showers off and on for a while, but the sun was shining in my window trying to wake me up this morning. It's gone again now, but I hope it will be back soon so we can go to the beach to have a nice tan to show off when we come home!

“State civil defense officials say of all the islands, Maui appears to have been hit the hardest.” From news report…YEAH MAUI!!! Way to get rained on!! WOOOOO!!!!

I wanted to wait till the worst was over before I posted anything, so some of the stations have gotten rid of a lot of their pics. But, here are some I got from a news website...

I got sick of adding pics…here are some links to videos and slide shows if you are really interested…be sure to watch for the locals shaka-ing the camera! Gotta keep in real, even in the middle of a storm!
